美军太平洋部队司令会晤中国官员 (US Pacific Commander Speaks with Chinese Officials in Beijing)

美军太平洋部队司令星期一在北京会晤中国官员，讨论军事关系、台湾以及其它问题。

美军太平洋战区负责人、海军上将蒂莫西.基廷和中国外交部长杨洁篪举行了闭门会晤。

官方的新华社说，杨洁篪要求美国不要允许陈水扁利用美国领土从事任何分裂活动。

新华社说，杨洁篪的这番话针对的是陈水扁星期天在阿拉斯加过境停留。

在基廷为期三天的访问中，预计他还将会晤中央军委副主席郭伯雄，然后前往上海和广州，参观当地的军事设施。

The commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific is meeting with Chinese officials in Beijing today (Monday) to discuss military ties, Taiwan and other issues.

Admiral Timothy Keating, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, met Chinese Foreign Ministry Yang Jiechi behind closed doors.

The official Xinhua news agency said Yang demanded that the United States not allow Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian to engage in any separatist activities by using U.S. territory.

Xinhua said the remarks were in reaction to Mr. Chen's stopover in Alaska on Sunday.

Keating is also expected to meet with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong, before touring military facilities in Shanghai and Guangzhou during his three-day visit.

一石料场滑坡至少12人据信已死 (At Least 12 Chinese Workers Believed Dead in Quarry Landslide)

中国说，中国北方一个石料场发生剧烈山体滑坡，有十二人被埋，恐怕已经死亡。

官方的新华社星期一报导说，救援人员已经从天津市附近这处石料场挖出一人的尸体，山体滑坡是星期天上午在这里发生的。

新华社说，由于据信有十公斤炸药同这些采石工人一起被埋，所以救援工作进行得缓慢。

China says as many as 12 people are feared dead after being buried by a massive landslide at a quarry in northern China.

The official Xinhua news agency reported today (Monday) that rescuers have pulled one body out of the quarry near the city of Tianjin, where the landslide occurred early Sunday.

Xinhua said work is proceeding slowly, because 10 kilograms of explosives are believed to have been buried along with the workers.
