中国在拉萨启动“爱国主义教育”运动 (China Launches "Patriotic Education" Drive in Tibet)

在藏人地区最近发生了反对汉人的抗议之后，中国共产党在西藏首府拉萨启动了“爱国主义教育”运动。官方的西藏日报星期一说，为期两个月的运动的目的是为了打击藏独思想以及回击对流亡在外的西藏精神领袖达赖喇嘛的支持。运动将包括收看电视节目和组织谴责达赖喇嘛的学习讨论。

China's Communist Party has launched a "patriotic education" drive in Tibet's capital, Lhasa following recent anti-Chinese protests in the region. The official "Tibet Daily" newspaper Monday says the two-month campaign is aimed at attacking pro-independence sentiment and support for Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. The campaign will include television programs and organized denunciation sessions of the Dalai Lama.

The report says the drive will attempt to strengthen relations between local party officials and residents in and around Lhasa. Beijing has accused the Dalai Lama of masterminding several weeks of protests in Tibetan areas of China and of seeking independence for Tibet. The Dalai Lama denies the charge, and says he only wants autonomy for Tibet.

日韩承诺就贸易和安全问题合作 (Japan, South Korea Promise Cooperation on Trade and Security Issues)

日本与韩国领导人保证开启双边关系的“新时代”，在贸易与安全议题上密切合作。日本首相福田康夫和到访的韩国总统李明博星期一在东京会晤。他们同意展开工作层级的会谈，以重新启动陷入停顿的贸易谈判，并密切合作，以终止北韩核武计划。

The leaders of Japan and South Korea promised "a new era" in bilateral relations, pledging to cooperate closely on trade and security issues. Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and visiting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak met Monday in Tokyo. They agreed to open working-level talks aimed at restarting stalled trade negotiations and to cooperate closely in efforts to end North Korea's nuclear arms program.

The South Korean president says he wants "future-oriented" relations with Japan and promised to avoid "knee-jerk" (reflexive) reactions over the past. The two leaders agreed to maintain cooperation in pressing North Korea to make a complete and correct declaration of its nuclear weapons programs. Meanwhile, South Korea's new chief delegate to multinational nuclear talks with North Korea Kim Sook told a Seoul-based radio station everything North Korea says will have to be verified.
