中国：消费者不应担心食品 (China: Consumers Should Not Fear Food)

中国农业部长孙政才说，中国农产品总体上是安全的，消费者食用无需担心。孙政才对中国国营的人民日报说，从政府的监督情况来看，中国农产品的合格率比以往任何时候都高。

一系列含有非法和过量化学物质的中国产品今年早些时候进入中国国内和美国市场。此后，中国政府经常为中国的食品、药品和其它产品的质量辩护。

孙政才说，政府认真采取措施，打击污染食品的制造者。星期五，中国政府的质量监管机构推出了召回不安全食品和玩具的制度。

China's Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai says most of the country's farm produce is safe and consumers have no reason to fear eating. Sun Zhengcai told China's state-run "People's Daily" newspaper that judging from government monitoring, the rate of acceptable Chinese agricultural products is higher than ever.

The government has been regularly defending the quality of Chinese food, medicines and other goods since a series of products tainted with illegal and excessive chemicals made their way into domestic and U.S. markets earlier this year.

Sun said the government is serious about taking action against producers of tainted foods. On Friday, the government's quality watchdog group introduced a recall system for unsafe food products and toys.

中国将帮助菲律宾加强国防能力 (China to Help Philippines Boost Defense Capabilities)

菲律宾国防部长特奥多罗说，中国同意向马尼拉赠送大约200万美元，用来改进菲律宾的国防能力。

特奥多罗星期一与到访的中国国防部长曹刚川举行了会谈后宣布了这一消息。特奥多罗没有详细说明这笔钱将如何使用，不过他说，这将使两国军队的关系更加密切。曹刚川目前正在对菲律宾进行为期5天的友好访问。

美国是菲律宾在这一地区的主要安全盟友，菲律宾官员曾努力淡化马尼拉与中国正在发展的关系。

The Philippines' Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro says China has agreed to give Manila about two million dollars in grants to improve its defense capabilities.

Gilbert Teodoro announced the agreement following talks Monday with visiting Chinese Defense Secretary Cao Gangchuan. Teodoro did not offer details on how the money would be used, but said it would bring the countries' militaries closer together. Cao is in the Philippines for a five-day goodwill visit.

The United States is Manila's main security ally in the region, and Philippine officials have made efforts to downplay the country's growing ties with China.
