伊周三发生系列袭击150丧生 (Series of Attacks Kill 150 in Iraq Wednesday)

Car bombs and gunfire shook the Iraqi capital Wednesday, killing more than 150 people and injuring hundreds more, most of them Shi'ite Muslims. The deadliest attack was in a mainly Shi'ite district, where a suicide bomber in a van detonated his explosives near a crowd of laborers waiting for work, killing nearly 90 people and wounding at least 160 others.

The violence was repeated across Baghdad, where at least nine other bombings and a series of shootings killed and injured dozens more people. In the northern suburbs, gunmen dragged at least 17 men from their homes and executed them in broad daylight.

Al-Qaida in Iraq said in an unverifiable Internet posting that it carried out the Baghdad attacks to avenge a joint U.S. - Iraqi military offensive underway against insurgents in the western town of Tal Afar. Meanwhile, Iraqi leaders announced they had finally sent the draft constitution to the United Nations, ending weeks of negotiations.

云南发生大爆炸死伤五十四人 (Power Explosion Kills, Injures 54 in Yunnan)

中国西南的云南省弥勒县一个村庄发生强烈爆炸，导致11人死亡，43人受伤。中国国家媒体星期三报导，初步调查表明，一名村民星期一晚上把载有18吨硝酸铵的卡车停放在住宅附近，发生了爆炸。

爆炸形成的大坑可以容纳几辆公共汽车，彻底摧毁了17栋住宅，扭曲了电线架，几百公尺之内的树叶脱落。

硝酸铵是一种普通化肥，但是可以用来制作炸弹。1995年美国奥克拉荷马城发生的爆炸事件就使用的是这种化学品。

A powerful explosion has ripped through a village in southwestern China's Yunnan province, killing at least 11 people and injuring 43. Chinese state media reported Wednesday that a preliminary investigation found that a villager's truck, loaded with 18 tons of ammonium nitrate, exploded while parked near his home Monday night.

The crater left by the explosion was described as large enough to hold several buses. The blast totally destroyed 17 homes, bent electricity poles and stripped the leaves off trees for hundreds of yards.

Ammonium nitrate is a common fertilizer, but can also be used to make a bomb. The chemical was used in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in the United States.
