(Russia, China Express Concern About Possible Use of Force Against Iran)

Russia and China have expressed concern about the possible use of force against Iran, following a comment from France warning of the prospect of war over Tehran's nuclear program. Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow is worried by reports that there is serious consideration being given to military action against Iran. He made the comment after talks in Moscow with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Beijing is opposed to what it called the unbridled threat of the use of force in international affairs.

On Sunday, French Foreign Minister Kouchner said the world should prepare for the possibility of war against Iran, if nuclear negotiations fail. But Iranian President dismissed the warning, saying it was a comment intended for the media that should not be taken seriously.

(Contract Negotiations Continue Between GM, Union Workers)

Contract talks between U.S. auto-manufacturing giant General Motors and its union employees continued into the evening Monday while workers reported for duty without a new contract. Neither side made any public comment Monday on the talks, but GM's stock price rose about three percent on optimism that an agreement would be forthcoming.

The autoworkers' contract officially expired Friday night, but union workers have extended it on an hour-by-hour basis as negotiations continue.

If the two sides reach a deal, the agreement will serve as a model in contract talks between the union and other major U.S. automakers, Ford and Chrysler.
