报告：北京释放非官方中国罗马天主教主教 (Reports: Beijing Releases Unofficial Chinese Roman Catholic Bishop)

报导说，今年早些时候贾治国曾被送到医院就医，但仍处于警方监管之下。贾治国1980年被任命为中国地下天主教会的主教。北京只允许天主教徒属于政府控制的教会，但是中国的许多天主教徒坚持效忠梵蒂冈，在非官方教会或是私人家中祈祷。

Published reports say a bishop belonging to China's underground Roman Catholic church has been released from a Chinese prison after 10 months. Reports by Catholic-affiliated news outlets say bishop Julius Jia Zhiguo returned to his home this week in the northern city of Zhengding, in Hebei province. Authorities have also allowed the bishop to receive visits from priests from his diocese.

Jia is believed to be at least 70 years old. He has been arrested eight times over the past two years, apparently for refusing to join China's state-approved church, known as the Catholic Patriotic Association. The bishop's latest detention began in November last year.

Reports say that earlier this year, Jia was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but remained in police custody. Jia was ordained as a bishop of China's underground church in 1980. Beijing only allows Catholics to belong to government-controlled churches, but many Chinese Catholics remain loyal to the Vatican and worship in unofficial churches and private homes.

中国法庭将学者刑期减少九个月 (Chinese Court Cuts 9 Months from Scholar's Prison Term)

一个关注中国人权的团体说，中国南部一家法庭为一名因间谍指控被判刑的香港学者减刑9个月。徐泽荣2001年因泄露国家机密的罪名被判刑13年。徐泽荣是当时几位因有国外关系而以间谍指控被逮捕的学者之一。

总部设在美国的对话基金会星期二说，广州一家法庭批准了减刑的决定，允许徐泽荣2012年9月获释。人权组织和学者一直在呼吁中国政府释放徐泽荣。

A Chinese rights group says a court in southern China has reduced by nine months the prison term of a Hong Kong scholar who was jailed on spying charges. Xu Zerong was convicted in 2001 of passing on state secrets and sentenced to 13 years in prison. He was among several other academics with foreign connections who were arrested during that time on spying charges.

The U.S.-based Dui Hua Foundation said Tuesday that a court in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou approved the sentence reduction, which would allow Xu to be released in September, 2012. Human rights groups and academics have petitioned China's government to release Xu.
