| China's legislature
has taken steps to ease the tax burden for lower-paid workers.
China's official Xinhua news agency says legislators amended
the country's personal income tax law (Thursday).
The new tax law says that anyone making less than 197 dollars a month
will not be required to pay income tax. The current threshold is about
100 dollars.
The bill is to take effect at the beginning of next year.
Xinhua quoted a finance minister as saying the new threshold
will help care for the interests of low and medium-income groups.
China is seeing a widening gap in income between the country's
rich and poor, and has been under increasing pressure to ease the financial
burden on the poor.
