A new study warns that world fish and seafood populations face collapse if
overfishing and pollution continue. The study, published in the magazine,
Science, says world seafood populations could collapse by the year 2048.
The researchers conclude that the variety of ocean fish has already
declined, with 29 percent of species in collapse.
The lead researcher in the study said the results were beyond anything
he expected. He said the loss of what he called the oceans' biodiversity
hampers the ability of the seas to recover from global warming and
pollution.
