Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps says the crash of a military plane in Tehran
has killed 36 people, including 30 members of the corps. State media quote the
Revolutionary Guards as saying the Antonov 74 aircraft crashed on takeoff
Monday after one of its engines caught fire. Six crewmen were among those
killed. Two Revolutionary Guards who survived the crash are being treated in a
hospital.
The Revolutionary Guards says it has begun an investigation into the cause
of the crash. Iran has a history of aircraft accidents. Three military planes
have crashed in the past year, and a civilian airliner crashed in September.
Airline safety experts say Iran's aging planes are poorly maintained.
