(China Denies Using the Internet for Espionage)

China has disputed a report claiming that the country is at the forefront of a new "cyber cold war," using the Internet for espionage operations. The report, released Thursday by U.S.-based computer software security company McAfee, said China is the most aggressive of 120 countries that carry out Web espionage.

The report cites incidents in which Chinese hackers allegedly gained access to German, Indian and U.S. government computer networks in the past 12 months. Beijing denied the findings and said it is itself a victim of hackers from abroad. A Foreign Ministry spokesman declined to identify the source of such cyber-attacks.

(Pope Benedict XVI Accepts Muslims' Invitation for Dialogue)

The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI has accepted an invitation by 138 Muslim scholars for a greater dialogue between Muslims and Christians. The Vatican released a letter Thursday in which Benedict praised the "positive spirit" behind the gesture, and its "call for a common commitment to promoting peace." Benedict XVI will receive the Muslim delegation at the Vatican at a date to be announced later.

Muslims sent Benedict a letter in October, calling for peace and understanding between Islam and Christianity. They wrote that the very survival of the world is at stake, and that followers of both faiths share the belief in one God and love of one's neighbor.
