(Shi'ites and Sunnis Unite Against Violence in Baghdad)

In Iraq, hundreds of Shi'ite and Sunni Muslims have taken to the streets of Baghdad in a show of unity against sectarian violence.

Following Friday prayers, men and women carrying Iraqi flags and posters of their missing or dead relatives called for an end to sectarian death squads. They also denounced the alleged abuse of Sunni Arabs in a Shi'ite-run government jail.

(UN Investigator Says Torture Widespread in China)

A United Nations rights investigator says torture remains widespread in China, and he has accused government officials there of obstructing his fact-finding mission.

In Beijing today (Friday), U.N. envoy on torture Manfred Nowak said that during his 12-day visit he was granted access to prisoners who allege they were abused. But he was not allowed to bring photographic or electronic equipment into prisons to document his findings.
