斐济发生军事政变 (Military Coup in Fiji)

斐济军队司令说，军队已经从恩加拉塞总理领导的政府夺取了权力。

佛兰克.白尼马拉马星期二在苏瓦的新闻发布会上宣布了军队接管的消息，证实了这个岛国在过去20年间发生的第四次政变。斐济军队包围了恩加拉塞的官邸和政府办公大楼，并且在首都部份地区设置路障。

恩加拉塞最初在2000年的军事政变以后被军方任命为总理。自那以后，他所领导的政党两次赢得选举。他谴责说星期二发生的政变非法，说白尼马拉马“强奸”了国家宪法。

白尼马拉马说，他采取这项行动是为了结束斐济的政治僵局。他指称恩加拉塞政府腐败，而且对六年前政变的组织者太手软。

Fiji's military chief says the army has seized power from the government of Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase. 

Frank Bainimarama announced the takeover at a news conference Tuesday in Suva, confirming the island nation's fourth coup in the past 20 years. Fijian troops surrounded Mr. Qarase's house and government buildings, and set up roadblocks in parts of the capital.

Mr. Qarase was first named prime minister by the military after a coup in 2000, and his party has since won two elections. He condemned Tuesday's coup as illegal, and accused Bainimarama of "raping" the country's constitution.

Bainimarama says he took the action to end a political stalemate in Fiji. He has accused Mr. Qarase of being corrupt and too soft on the organizers of a coup six years ago.

英国警察抵莫斯科调查利特维年科事件 (British Police in Moscow for Litvinenko Investigation)

一组英国警官抵达莫斯科，调查前俄罗斯间谍利特维年科神秘中毒死亡的事件。英国内政大臣里德星期一说，这9名警官将约谈在利特维年科死前和他交谈过的证人。

A group of British police officers has arrived in Moscow to investigate the mysterious poisoning death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko. British Home Secretary John Reid said Monday that the team of nine officers will interview witnesses who spoke to Litvinenko before he died.

It is not clear how long the police visit will last. Controversy over the death of the former spy has sparked diplomatic tensions between Britain and Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned Monday that continued speculations that Moscow was involved in his death may damage relations with Britain.
